16. wow… a month

And suddenly the school is open for almost a month!

How much did we grow in this short time. And I don't mean in numbers of children, but in our way of working. Daniel, the assistant teacher and Mary, our volunteer, are teaching better and better. Mary develops as the physical therapist. She has done a few trainings in that and that helps a lot. How I would like to pay her a full salary: she is worth her weight in gold. She works mostly with Rosemund and Loïs.

These are our youngest children; both cannot sit independently yet. She now exercises them to massage the joints more loosely and thus help them to adopt the sitting position. If the parents could continue the exercises at home, that would be great. That is difficult for the parents, because Loïs does not like it and cries. But she is progressing immensely. On Wednesday she sat completely independent for a while. Terrific! We are also working on getting Junior and Gilbert to eat themselves.

Gilbert does a good job in that, although we must clean his table and wheelchair when he is finished. But that's not a problem. For Junior it is a bit more difficult. But he does eat himself. Afterwards Mary puts him under the shower. That is necessary. But he's getting there.

The next step is to let him eat with his right hand.
