Opening of the Lumen Mundi School
On January 15, 2023 the Lumen Mundi School in Siniensi officially opened its doors. It was a busy but lovely day. Many dignitaries were present. Of course Siniensi Chief Afulang. He has been involved in the organisation from day one. The Subchief of Wiaga and Naasa Chief were also present. The Paramount Chief of Builsa had sent a delegation. Of course there were also many invitees from Sandema and Siniensi, many people from Naasa (for there our school is situated) and a delegation of the Ladies of the Silk Thread in the Netherlands (Marjo and José), Ria as a representative of the Dutch board and the family Mangold from the U.S.A
The day started with speeches by all persons who sat at the high table. Beautiful words were said! Thank you for that! And we also received very nice donations! Among other things a sheep from the Paramount Chief, guinea fowls from the Ladies of the Silk Thread, a goat from Mr. Amoak, and many amounts of money of friends and relations! It was a very big surprise.
In the meantime the children were inside the school. Some were playing and others were practizing for the act they were going to play. After all speeches it was time for the lottery. Ezekiel, Junior, Ria and Margreet sold tickets. We had a table with great prizes. We sold a lot of tickets.
A lottery is not well known in Ghana. It was a real party. Nice to see that a grown man wins a toy car and then says: ‘In real it is more beautiful!’. Or when someone wins a very nice piece of cloth… comments from those around him: ‘That should have been for me!’. We all enjoyed it very much! And also raised a nice amount here.
And then, finally, after a long wait of the children, it was time for the play. The title of the story: ‘A day at the Lumen Mundi School’. How exciting that was and how fantastically well the children did!
The parts:
Richmond was Godfred, MotorKing driver
Dora was Martha, cook
Ezekiel was master Daniël, assistant teacher
David was Richard, head of the Workshop
Gilbert was Kojo, janitor
Faith was Mary, volunteer
And the other children were themselves.
Margreet read the story in English, Mary translated into Buli. Godfred coached the MotorKing (made of cardboard), Kojo helped Asiuk and Saviour to depart in time. Martha coached cook Dora, Daniël controlled the other children and Richard took photographs.
Especially the MotorKing was a success! By the good acting now all visitors know exactly what is being done at the Lumen Mundi School.
We had a longer programme, but that was too much. The puzzle match we did on another day and David sang his anthem ‘I know my level’ together with Mary during lunch. And of course there was dancing too.
We all look back at a great, fantastic party!
THANKS TO ALL PEOPLE INVOLVED MAKING THIS DAY TO NEVER FORGET!
