In these workshops we will talk about different kinds of disabilities, such as autism, Down’s Syndrome or physical handicaps, and how one can care for someone with these afflictions.

Most parents of handicapped children love their children, some are really proud of them. The problems mostly lie with the community they live in. Children with a disability are often seen in a negative light, the disability being seen as a result of the parents having done something wrong. For this reason the children are kept out of sight or sometimes tied to a tree where they’re then fed. And so it’s often the child who is punished most severely.

Lumen Mundi aims to organize coaching to show that there is nothing wrong with these children. They are not wizards, witches or evil spirits. They too deserve a place in our society. Stronger still, we can learn from them. For example – they show us how you can be cheerful even with a handicap, and how you can enjoy your life without grumbling, happy with what you have.

Special speakers who are experts on the various subjects will be invited for these workshops. Some, depending on the topic, will be given by someone from Lumen Mundi. It is also possible for local people to ask for a workshop on a particular aspect of disability.

Lumen Mundi can also organize external workshops e.g. at a teaching college or for the Ghana Education Service.
